Good basic table manners are important because they ensure that both guests and family members are comfortable at the table. … using table manners show the people and family members that you are eating with that you are polite. It also demonstrates that you respect the people who prepared the male will clean up afterward.
Some table manners which adults should follow are:
1. chew with mouth closed
2. Keep your smartphone off the table and set to silent or vibrate. Wait to check calls and texts until you are finished with meal and away.
3. Don’t use your utensils like a shovel or stab your food.
4. Don’t pick your teeth at the table.
5. Remember to use your napkin.
6. Wait until you’re done chewing to sip or swallow a drink. ( choking is clearly an exception. ).
7. Cut only one piece of food a time.
8. Avoid slouching and don’t place your elbows on the table while you’re eating. ( though it is okay prop your elbows on the table while conversing between courses, and always has been, even in Emily’s day).
9. Instead of reaching across the table for something, asked for it to be passed to you.
10. Take part in dinner conversations, or eat your food quietly.
Some table manners for children
1. Come to the table with clean hands and face.
2. Put your napkin on your lap.
3. Start eating when everyone else does or when given to you.
4. Stay seated and sit up straight.
5. Keep your elbows ( and other body parts!) off the table while eating.
6. Chew with mouth closed, and speak after you swallowed your food.
7. Don’t make bad comments about the food.
8. Say ” please pass the… ” instead of reaching.
